Women account for one in four people living with HIV in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Globally, HIV is the leading cause of death for women of reproductive age (14-49), says UNAIDS. But this doesn’t have to be the case. Groundbreaking research is occurring at the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) Network’s sites around the world to help women control the virus and live a normal lifespan. Yet these trials and the Community Advisory Boards that provide researchers with valuable input need women’s involvement in order to be successful.
