Dear Community Advocates:
Welcome to the Community Scientific Subcommittee (CSS) of the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG). The mission of the ACTG CSS is to facilitate information exchange and community representation between communities affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic and the HIV/AIDS research community.
Much has been learned and many HIV/AIDS treatments and strategies have been developed as a result of the motivation and advice the community at large has provided researchers.
Community Advisory Boards across the nation have enthusiastically participated in the development of concept sheets, protocols, accrual, conferences, and retreats. Community members have been instrumental in presenting compassionate views that have led to exciting experiments in science and inclusion in studies for people who would not have otherwise had access to new therapies.
As members of the CSS, we hope that the information contained in this website clarifies your roles as HIV community advocates and encourages you to become full partners in this exciting process of scientific research.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the CSS. If you have a question about an ACTG protocol or scientific committee, you will find its contact person's name and phone number in the membership information and contact list section of this home page.
